If your child is not a great fan of fruit and vegetables, smoothies will be your saviour! They’re the perfect way to sneak lots of vitamins and minerals into their diet without losing their appeal.
We’ve brought you this nutty mango smoothie recipe because it’s quick, easy, filled with goodness and tastes divine.
You can get the ingredients you need in our regular fruit and veg shop, and preparation is as easy as switching on your blender!
The king of fruit
Mango is the key ingredient in this nutritious smoothie. They are known as the “king of fruit” and for good reasons. Firstly, they are high in antioxidants that protect the body from damage that can lead to diseases such as cancer and diabetes.
They’re also high in vitamin A, which plays a vital role in keeping your eyes, skin, hair and immune system healthy.
Additionally, you’ll find vitamin C in abundance in mangoes. In fact, the 100 g serving suggested in this recipe will contain almost all the vitamin C a child will need per day (35-40 mg) in one fruity hit!
Mangoes are also believed to aid digestion by easing constipation and help regulate blood sugar levels.
The health benefits of hazelnuts
Enjoy healthy hazelnuts in the spread used in our nutritious smoothie recipe. Hazelnuts can be underrated but they’re a natural food with heaps of health benefits.
They are exceptionally high in manganese, which helps maintain healthy bones, aids your body’s metabolism and enhances brain and thyroid health. Hazelnuts also contain a good dose of vitamin E, fibre and protein.
And while they are high in calories, this is a plus rather than a minus when it comes to growing children.
Coconut milk makes a great choice
You can use cow’s milk or any dairy alternative with this tempting recipe. Coconut milk is an excellent choice. Just one cup contains a selection of the vitamins and minerals that your child needs, including iron and vitamin C.
We’ve also included vanilla-flavoured whey protein isolate powdered supplement in this recipe. Protein makes up the “building blocks” of the human body as it’s an important component of every single cell. A supplement is a really easy way of getting more protein into your little ones. It’s also especially useful for anyone following a plant-based diet who won’t be getting their protein from meat sources.
And as a finishing touch, there’s a handful of frozen zucchini for some extra nutrients.
